Domestic sea freight has increasing become an option for freight travelling over long distances within the country where time ins’t an issue. This method is obviously used for all freight moving from the mainland to Tasmania but in the recent years has become a regular option for shipping containers moving between Melbourne to Perth, Melbourne to Darwin, Melbourne to Brisbane, Sydney to Perth, Sydney to Darwin, Brisbane to Perth, Brisbane to Darwin and Perth to Tasmania. Due to the high costs of port fees and cost of rail being cheaper in opposite directions and short distances, rail option can be used for all other routes. To ship freight domestically via sea, the minimum quantity we move is 1 x 20 foot container. Unfortunately we do not provide the services of moving less than a Container load.

After Hours Delivery

We understand every customer and every project comes with different requirements and we are always prepared. Dealing with shipping containers can be a complicated task but doesn’t have to be. If delivery is required at midnight in the middle of the country, this can be arranged with prior notice. You will also be given access to a night allocators and truck drivers phone number to keep in touch with us.

Shipping Container Compliance

In order for a shipping container to travel by rail or sea, it needs to have a compliance certificate. Further to this, if a container is modified in some way, then its current compliance is automatically void. We provide this service nationwide. We will either come to you and inspect your container onsite or collect your container and bring to our site.

FAQ Frequently Asked Questions

Can my container be moved anywhere domestically via sea ?

Not quite. Its most economical when moving over long distances, like from the east coast to west coast, or from far north to the south or Tasmania. Other short destinations are possible but the costs for lodging it at the port is quite high. In these cases rail becomes a better option.

Can I hire a container and move it via sea with Containerzone ?

Absolutely. We can provide a total solution including storage.

If my container cant be moved via sea, what are my options ?

The other option is rail or roadfreight. We also provide rail service.

Do you require a full payment upfront ?

No we don’t, but we can take a full payment upfront ? But we do require a 50% deposit before engaging into any work just to make sure all parties a fully committed. We will require full payment before the final delivery though. If you have other suggestions, like a payment plan etc please speak to us about it we will gladly review your payment offer as we understand the availability of funds are different from case to case basis. We accept bank transfer, all major **credit cards and PayPal. **surcharges apply.

What process or process or paperwork is required from me ?

For domestics movements, we will prepare all the paperwork and make bookings at the port for timeslots etc. For international movements, there are a number of documents required found on this page.

If my container is already arrived and needs to be cleared from customs, what do i need to do ?

You need to provide us with all your freight documents so that we can get started with the customs clearing process. Please contact us for instructions.

How will my container be delivered to my door ?

Depends on the access and the weight. Usually we send tilt trays to collect 20 foot containers which are under 6 tonnes heavy. There are also very limited tilt trays that can carry 40 foot containers(they are called super-tilt) in circumstances where theres an access issue. So it all depends on case to case basis.

Can I deliver and collect my container from the port by myself, or through one of my carriers ?

Yes. Provided that the driver has a MISC card that allows him to go into the port and appropriate booking procedures are followed.
